As it is suggested by our name, Shrink-Comp Europe's world revolves around Shrinkage-Compensating Concrete.

We are a specialty engineering firm working closely with all project participants as external specialists and controlling all aspects (including concrete mix design, structural details, structural design, etc.) of the project influenced by Shrinkage-Compensating Concrete.

Shrinkage-Compensating Concrete gained widespread application in Japan and in the U.S starting in the 1970's. It is primarily utilized for the construction of industrial floors, pavements, bidge decks, elevated slabs, water containers, sewage treatment plants, etc. It allows us to build durable, low-maintenance reinforced concrete structures free of shrinkage cracks and joints.

Shrink-Comp's knowledge and experience originated in the U.S. It was a 2 year process (2009-2011) consisting of studies overseas and material development in Europe to successfully adopt this technology.DENKA CSA #20, a special cement-like material engineered with Japanese precision is incorporated in concrete as a key element of Shrink-Comp's success.

Shrink-Comp combined four decades of knowledge and experience to offer the benfits of Shrinkage-Compensating Concrete to the European construction industry.

Shrinkage-Compensating Concrete is employed to the greatest possible advantage when used for industrial floors, concrete pavements, bridge decks, slabs in parking structures, liquid containers, etc. Although it is essential for these type of structures to remain uncracked for serviceability, durability and economic reasons, they usually crack due to shrinkage or they have to have needy and expensive joints to stop that tendency.

Shrink-Comp Europe works as a consultant on these projects, designs the concrete composition (aided with thorough laboratory testing) and structural details, provides complete set of instructions as to how to build with Shrinkage-Compensating Concrete, also works with the ready mix concrete supplier, conducts on-site concrete QC testing and provides technical supervision during the time of construction to make sure all instructions are understood and followed – especially if the contractor and ready mix supplier has little or no experience with Shrinkage-Compensating Concrete.

One of the most favourable field of application for Shrinkage-Compensating Concrete is industrial floors. We prepare the complete set of floor specifications, including concrete mix design, floor thickness, subgrade requirements, joint locations, structural details, flatness and levelness requirements, etc.; we conduct laboratory testing of concrete before construction to adjust the mix to the local materials, then we are present on site with our mobile QC lab to ensure the quality of the delivered concrete. We also advise the flooring contractor in Shrinkage-Compensating Concrete specific matters.

Noemi Nagy recieved her master's degree in Civil Engineering from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (Hungary).

She was enrolled in HAESF Professional Internship Program from 2009 to 2010 in the US where she studied concrete at the Center for Advanced Cement Based Materials (Northwestern University, Evanston, IL) under the supervision of Professor Shah.

Returning to Hungary in 2010, she continued working with concrete at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. In 2011 she founded Shrink-Comp Europe Limited, then, in 2013, co-founded Allen Face Europe Limited.

I worked as a mining engineer during the active era of the Hungarian deep mining industry, leading my mine construction and operation enterprise. Most of our projects were related to special underground construction, including reinforced concrete and shotcrete. As the mines in Hungary closed, we shifted towards highly specialized underground projects, such as the construction Hungarian Metro Line M4, including deep tunnelling and design/delivery of ancillary reinforced concrete structures. I have several decades of experience in the construction industry -including company management, construction of bridges, railways structures, industrial buildings – as a certified chief technical manager.

Katalin Szilagyi graduated in Civil Engineering at Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME, Hungary) in 2005. 2005-2008 she participated in laboratory research and development of concrete at the Department of Construction Materials and Engineering Geology, besides she was involved in projects related to concrete technology and in-situ assessment of concrete structures.

In 2008 she won a full-time 3 year scholarship for PhD studies supported by the Hungarian Ministry of Education. Her PhD thesis was awarded by the Gallus Rehm Foundation and supported by the Jedlik Ányos scholarship in the National Excellence Program. She earned her PhD degree in 2014. Several scientific manuscripts of her research work were published in international academic journals with considerable impact factor and independent citations. She is a member of three scientific committees. Her research of interest: non-destructive testing of concrete, concrete technology, shrinkage of concrete. From 2014 she is a consultant in concrete technology, reinforced concrete structures and concrete slabs on ground.

Flatness and levelness of SHRINK-COMP joint-less floors are specified using F-Numbers - brought to us by Allen Face Europe. We found that our customers (both floor owners and flooring contractors) benefit more from F-Numbers when compared to other floor profile specification systems, like TR34 or DIN.
